BUILDING
FUND
The LULAC
National Office has entered one of the most exciting times in our 79-year
history: the acquisition of our first national headquarters in Washington,
DC. LULAC’s new national headquarters will be housed on the 10th floor of
1430 K Street, NW, in our nation’s capital. This new building, currently
under construction, is an office condominium that offers striking
architectural features in close proximity to the White House and minutes
away from federal agencies and Capitol Hill. Just one block from the metro,
the building offers flexible, column-free, floor plans, state-of-the-art
security, a fiber optics network, and high ceilings.
The campaign
to fund the acquisition and build-out of the 10th floor of 1430 K Street is
an ambitious one. Our goal is to raise $3,545,000 to purchase the 6,508
square foot floor and 3 parking spaces, build out the space, and outfit the
office with furniture and equipment. The LULAC National Headquarters in
Washington, DC, will house up to 32 full-time staff who will manage the
operation of LULAC’s community service programs, advocate for national
policies and legislation beneficial to Latinos, and handle the day-to-day
administration of LULAC National and the LULAC National Educational Service
Centers.
The Case: LULAC improves the quality of life in
over 600 Latino communities throughout the United States by organizing and
encouraging Hispanic Americans to volunteer their time, effort and resources
to help others less fortunate than themselves. To do this well requires a
strong national operation that develops cutting-edge programs and advocates
for policies and legislation which respond to the Latino community’s unique
needs and challenges. The purchase of a permanent national headquarters in
Washington, DC will provide LULAC with enough space to double its national
staff, strengthen its ability to deliver model programs throughout the
country, and engage Hispanic Americans in the legislative discussions that
will affect their future.
The
Need: To raise $3,545,000 to purchase the 10th floor of 1430 K
Street, NW, Washington, DC an office condominium currently under
construction.
The
Impact: By investing in a permanent national headquarters in
Washington, DC, LULAC will ensure that the voice of the Latino community
will be heard in our nation’s capital and that the fastest growing community
in the United States will have a seat at the table where our laws are made
and carried out. A permanent national headquarters will allow the oldest and
largest Hispanic membership organization in the country to grow our national
staff and strengthen our presence in Washington. Finally, investment in a
national headquarters building just steps from the White House will ensure
that LULAC can continue its historic mission and embrace the future with the
stability and resources it needs to succeed.
