The day-long event will focus on strengthening the grassroots community to leverage the growing political power of Latinos across the nation. The aim of this training is to build upon the momentum and increased civic engagement of Latinos in the 2008 presidential campaign season by offering participants skills training and resources to achieve social and political change in their home districts. Latino elected officials, community leaders and well known, award-winning Latino entertainers and celebrities will join LULAC, NALEO, NCLR, Voto Latino, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute, and the Democratic National Committee Hispanic Caucus, among many others, in celebrating the historic swearing-in of the Honorable Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States and the record Latino voter turnout in November.

The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF) and the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) will host the 2009 Latino State of the Union, the Second Annual Roundtable on Law, Policy and Civil Rights on January 19, 2009 in Washington, DC. This event will aim to educate Washington, D.C. policy makers, press, leaders in the Latino community and a national audience on the critical issues and legal and policy developments expected in the new Obama Presidential Administration and the 111th Congress that will have the greatest impact on Latinos. Through this discussion, Latino leaders will evaluate the importance and manifestation of key local, state and federal court cases and legislative developments and the unique consequences they bear on the Latino community. Participants will include the leadership from a variety of national civil rights organizations as well as elected officials from the House and Senate. In addition, invited are a number of key officials from the Obama administration and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.

Presidential Swearing-in Ceremony
The President-elect and Vice President-elect and their families will participate in the traditional inaugural ceremonies and events. For the first time ever, the length of the National Mall will be open to those wishing to attend the swearing-in ceremony. No tickets are required to view the Inaugural Ceremony on the National Mall west of 4th Street.

Presidential Inaugural Parade
The Presidential Inauguration Parade is an American tradition honoring the newly sworn in President and Vice President. The event will include a procession of ceremonial military regiments, citizens' groups, marching bands, and floats. The inauguration parade is open to the public and will be televised so that millions of Americans can view this special event.
Tickets are not required. The public will be able to lineup along the parade route at 7 a.m.
