Resolution - : TO SUPPORT THE TEACHING OF MINORITY HISTORICAL FIGURES IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS

WHEREAS, LULAC is our nation’s oldest and largest Hispanic civil rights organization addressing education, employment and civil rights issues in the United States of America since 1929; and

WHEREAS, LULAC denounces any legislative or administrative measures that remove ethnic studies or prohibits the teaching of events, persons or issues relating to historic minority groups in school or college curriculum; and

WHEREAS, LULAC denounces any legislation or measure taken that removes events, persons or issues of historical significance about racial and ethnic minority groups from textbooks used in public schools; and

WHEREAS LULAC promotes the teaching of historical figures such as Cesar Chavez, Thurgood Marshall and other important minority figures and groups like LULAC, American GI Forum, NAACP, MALDEF, among others;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the League of United Latin American Citizens will continue to fully and actively support the teaching of historical figures such as the ones stated above in public schools.
