Resolution - To Condemn, Ban and Demand Disconnection of the Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s Hotline for Citizens to report Illegal Aliens

WHEREAS, Maricopa County, AZ SheriffJoe Arpaio has announced on July 20, 2007 a dedicated hotline for citizens to call in with information or evidence about illegal aliens. That number is 602-876-4154.

WHEREAS, the Latino community in Maricopa County, AZ may suffer disproportionately from racial profiling as a result of Maricopa County, AZ Sheriff Joe Arpaio for Citizens to Report Illegal Aliens.

WHEREAS, Latino leaders and faith-based organizations in the U.S. state of Arizona want the local Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio to disconnect the hotline he created to report information about illegal immigrants, saying it raises the chance of racial profiling.

BE IT RESOLVED that the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) denounce and condemn local law enforcement policies such as the Maricopa County-AZ Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s Hotline for Citizens to Report Illegal Aliens. This hotline is a negative racial profiling campaign and harassment that has caused fear of law enforcement racial profiling among the Latino community residing in Maricopa County, Arizona.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that LULAC demand a Nationwide Ban of Hotlines for Citizens to Report Illegal Aliens, and immediate disconnection of Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s Hotline for Citizens to Report Illegal Aliens.
