Resolution - Restoring the Fairness Doctrine

WHEREAS, the public airwaves are and have traditionally been recognized as a means for communicating among members of the American public; and

WHEREAS, the same publicly owned airwaves are a major media for promoting public welfare, peace and tranquility; and

WHEREAS, the public welfare, peace and tranquility have been targeted by irresponsible and life-threatening calls for violence by some of these public airwaves, such as a radio station in Phoenix, AZ which called for the public to take their weapons to the state’s southern border and shoot Mexicans as a way of resolving the failed immigration system of this country; and

WHEREAS, these distorted uses of the public airwaves can and should be returned to use as open mediums guided by opportunity for all points of view.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the League of United Latin American Citizens issue a call to unite all interested Latino organizations in seeking hearings by the United States Congress to investigate the need for restoring balance to the public airwaves by restoring and applying the principles of fairness through a Fairness Doctrine.
