Resolution
 

IN SUPPORT OF CERTAIN EFFORTS TO DEFEND OUR FAMILIES AGAINST OUR BROKEN AND UNJUST IMMIGRATION LAWS

WHEREAS, Recently the City of Waukegan passed a resolution to apply for 287 (g) that would give the local police the power to act as I.C.E. agents; and

WHEREAS, the Waukegan population is 90,000 and well over 70% Latino and of those mostly Mexicans; and

WHEREAS, Sin Fronteras, Familia Latina Unida, and LCLAA have initiated a very successful boycott in Waukegan, and have over 150 businesses supporting the following 4 demands:
1. Rescind the 287(g) application to enlist Waukegan police officers to act a s I.C.E. agents.
2. Stop the vehicle impoundment program and racial profiling .
3. End building code inspector harassment of family housing.
4. Establish an independent police review board. and

WHEREAS, the city council vote on 287(g) is Monday July 16th in Waukegan City Council at 5:30 p.m.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that LULAC stand in full support of the four demands listed above and the boycott of businesses who don not support these demands and urges the mayor and City Council of Waukegan to withdray their 287 (g) application immediately; and

WHEREAS, there are over 4 million U.S. citizen children with one or more undocumented parent; and

WHEREAS,. The failure to approve comprehensive immigration reform continues to leave these families living in separation or the fear of separation; and

Hundreds of these families from different cities across the U.S. will gather with La Familia Latina Unida/Sin Fronteras on Tuesday, July 17th, 2007, to March on the 3 Branches of Government in the cause of family unity,

*First to march to pressure the Supreme Court to pressure the court to hear the case of the four million USA Children that have one or both parents undocumented;
*Second to march to pressure the Legislative Branch leaders to returen to work for just comprehensive immigration reform and an immediate solution to the separation of families; and
*Third to march to the White House demanding an immediate Moratorium to sopt the separation of family until just comprehensive immigration law passes.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that LULAC stands in support of, and will mobilize its board and members to support the July 18th march of the families for family unity; and
Conference announcing the trip to Washington, D.C., on Monday, July 16th, with Elvira Arellano, at Adalberto United Methodist Church, 2716 W. Division St. Chicago, Illinois.
