IMMIGRATION CALL CENTER HOTLINE

WHEREAS, immigrants need a central information and referral center to stop abuse and provide rumor, control; and

WHEREAS, immigrants seeking to enter or remain in the United States legally are being defrauded by individuals and companies claiming to provide social cards, work authorization or lawful permanent resident cards; and

WHEREAS, immigrants are being defrauded by companies who do not file the correct or complete immigration applications immediately resulting in a denial of their request; and

WHEREAS, the above incidents have cost immigrants millions of dollars (many losing their life savings) and have led to the incarceration and deportation of millions of innocent immigrants who were seeking legal means to enter and remain in the United States; and

WHEREAS, the American DREAM Act provides for certain requirements to be met by students who have a high school diploma or GED at time of application for relief and be accepted into a two or four year institution of higher education; and

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVES THAT, LULAC develop a central information call center to serve the interests of immigrants seeking to enter and/or remain in the United States in 3 main ways: (1) To give accurate information regarding current and future immigration law and processes in becoming legal United States citizens, (2) To form alliances with qualified individuals or companies to assist immigrants including a database where immigrants can check the validity of individuals and organization assisting them and (3) To give immigrants access to place complaints on individuals or companies who have defrauded them through a central hotline for information and referral. Said hotline will provide relevant immigration law and refer to pro bono and sliding scale attorneys and qualified immigration centers.
The state of Florida will implement as a pilot program and extent its services to a national level to provide a central hub for information, referral, research and action on immigration concerns.
