SUPPORT FOR JOHNNY CANALES PROGRAM

WHEREAS, the League of United Latin American Citizens is the nation’s oldest and largest Latino membership organization and since its inception has fostered higher education and advancement of all Hispanics at all levels and facets of our American society; and

WHEREAS, the state of New Mexico for over two decades has enjoyed the Johnny Canales Show because this program has promoted local, regional, national and international talent; and

WHEREAS, the southwestern part of this country is predominately Mexican American and a vast growing economic base. There is a tremendous market and need to promote our local talent through programming via Spanish language television; and

WHEREAS, the Johnny Canales Show has been literally an icon and legend in the Mexican American community, not only throughout the southwest, but the entire country. His program has been responsible for making careers and many musicians owe their fortune to Johnny Canales; and

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the League of United Latin American Citizens support Johnny Canales in his effort to obtain major sponsorships and a nationally syndicated television program that promotes Mexican American talent.
