Resolution

LIFT ALL TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS TO CUBA

Whereas, the United States has had a policy for 48 years of trying to remove Fidel Castro, which, by many standards, has failed; and

Whereas, as a result of that policy, no one has sacrificed more than the Cuban people and the Cuban-American individuals whose rights have been violated by being the denied the right to travel to Cuba; and

Whereas, after much discussion with many Cuban-Americans and Americans, we are no closer to removing Castro now than we were in 1959; and

Whereas, the current U.S. policy of restricting travel to Cuba by family members to only once every 3 years inflicts great suffering on all family members, both in Cuba and in the United States;

Therefore be it resolved that LULAC calls for the lifting of all restrictions which limit individuals from traveling to the island to visit their family members, so that they may travel at will.

Adopted this 1st day of July 2006.
