Resolution

SUPPORT OF H.R. 2134 – NATIONAL LATINO MUSEUM

Whereas, the story of the Hispanic contribution to the formation and development of the United States has not be told; and

Whereas, an increasing number of Hispanic/Latinos continues to contribute to a growth in the demographics of our nation; and

Whereas, our nation’s heritage has not appropriately included the history of this Hispanic population; and

Whereas, a museum that displays artifacts and a great amount of historical evidence of the contributions of Hispanics should be established for the purpose of educating the general public about the important role and participation of Latinos in American society, both of the past and as it evolves in the future; and

Whereas, H.R. 2134 has been sponsored by and supported by Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-CA) and Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), and Mr. Michael Soukup, Associate Director for Natural Resource Stewardship and Science at the National Park Service; Senators Hatch, Martinez, Menendez and Salazar who have introduced similar legislation in the Senate,

THerefore be it resolved, that LULAC support and promote H.R. 2134 for the establishment of a National Museum of the American Latino Community.

Adopted this 1st day of July 2006.

Rosa Rosales
LULAC National President
