Oceanic Conservation Organization (OCO)

Whereas, at Oceanic Conversation Organization (“OCO”), the goal is to create a blueprint for the survival of our oceans so that future generations may enjoy the wonders of magnificent fish such as the Blue Marlin and others; and

Whereas, OCO’s mission is to conserve and invigorate the marine biosphere’s natural productivity and diversity while sponsoring broad-based oceanographic education promoting a healthy, sustainable relationship between man and the sea; and

Whereas, OCO is a non profit organization 501(c) (3) tax-exempt Texas Corporation based in Texas; and

Whereas, OCO is promoting educational programs among high school and college students as to the current plight of the ocean; and

Whereas, OCO is working with government, business, and other non-profit organizations and the citizenry to spur and facilitate lobbying efforts on behalf of oceanic research and conservation of our biosphere to conserve the ocean’s resources;

Whereas, OCO needs to raise funds for the conservation of billfish and all other forms of aquatic life that are threatened;

Whereas, OCO wants to create an interest in the Latino community in areas of math and science through an Educational Oceanographic Program, and educate Latinos and the community in general about conservation through different programs, that includes the “Join the Race to Save the Oceans” (“Unase a la carrera para salvar los oceanos”).

Now therefore, be it resolved, that LULAC will support Oceanic Conservation Organization in all its efforts to conserve, fund, restore, and enhance the inherent productivity of the marine biosphere in a manner that promotes the wise use of its natural resources and progress for society.

Adopted this 2nd day of July 2005.
