TO FORM COALITIONS WITH OTHER ETHNIC MINORITY GROUPS TO PROMOTE CIVIL RIGHTS
 

Whereas, LULAC National President Hector Flores, Rainbow/PUSH Coalition President Reverend Jesse Jackson and National Council of La Raza President Janet Murguia joined together to reinvigorate a longstanding partnership between the African- American and Hispanic communities across the nation; and

Whereas, these named leaders and the leaders of MALDEF and Southwest Voter Registration Education Project agreed to bring their organizations, skills and concerted efforts to organize the African-American and Hispanic leadership to address common issues regarding civil rights, including but not limited to the following:           

  • Reauthorization of the Voting Rights Act

  • Passage of the Secure American and Orderly Immigration Act

  • To oppose non-governmental, private citizen vigilante activities;

Be It Resolved, that LULAC formally endorses this coalition’s efforts.
